National Scholarship Portal (NSP)
Central scholarships of roughly ₹1,000 to ₹20,000 a year, depending on your category and course level
The National Scholarship Portal is one website where most central government scholarships are applied for. It covers pre-matric support for school students, post-matric support for college students, and merit-based scholarships. How much you get depends on which scholarship you qualify for and what you are studying.
Who can apply
- Student enrolled in a recognised school, college or institution in India
- Meets the category, income and marks condition of the particular scholarship you choose on the portal
- Has a bank account in the student's own name for the money to come into
What to take with you
- Aadhaar card
- Income certificate
- Caste or category certificate, where the scholarship asks for one
- Last year's marksheet
- Bank passbook in the student's name
- Institution verification of your enrolment
How to apply
Register and apply at scholarships.gov.in, then take the printed form to your school or college so they verify it online. An application that the institution has not verified does not move forward.
Rejected or still waiting? Check these first
Most applications fail for a correctable reason, not because the applicant was ineligible. Before assuming you do not qualify, check each of these:
- School or college did not verify the application before the deadline
- Income certificate is expired or the income shown is above the limit for that scholarship
- Bank account is not in the student's own name, or Aadhaar and bank details do not match
