PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (Rooftop Solar)

Subsidy of up to roughly ₹78,000 towards a rooftop solar system, plus up to 300 units of free electricity a month

The government pays part of the cost of putting solar panels on your roof, up to roughly ₹78,000. After that you get up to 300 units of electricity free every month. For most households this cuts the monthly bill by a large amount.

Who can apply

  • Household with its own roof space for the panels
  • A valid electricity connection in your name
  • Bank account for the subsidy transfer

What to take with you

  • Aadhaar card
  • Latest electricity bill
  • Bank passbook
  • Proof of ownership of the house or roof

How to apply

Apply at pmsuryaghar.gov.in, pick a registered installer from the list on the portal, and the subsidy is paid into your bank account after the system is installed and inspected.

Rejected or still waiting? Check these first

Most applications fail for a correctable reason, not because the applicant was ineligible. Before assuming you do not qualify, check each of these:

  • Electricity connection is not in the applicant's name
  • Installation done by a vendor not registered on the portal
  • Bank details do not match Aadhaar, so the subsidy cannot be transferred

Still stuck after checking all of these? Tell us what happened and we will help you work out which office to approach.
